Louis W. Franz, Jr., 76, of New Hartford, passed away peacefully, August 31, 2024, at his home.

He was born August 14, 1948, in Utica, son of the late Louis W. and Shirley Hartman Franz. Louis served in the US Army in Vietnam from 1968-1970. He married Judy Beekman in 1974 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Utica.

Louie was employed for 36 years with Niagara Mohawk/National Grid.

He was of the Catholic Faith and was formerly a member of the VFW.

Louie was an avid Yankee Fan, he enjoyed hunting, watching the boats go through Lock 20 and family trips to Las Vegas.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; his son Michael Franz and fiancée Kaitlyn Benjamin, his daughter Shannon (David) Koscinski, his adored five grandchildren Alivia and Gavin Franz,and their mother Dayna Amodio, Summit Franz, D.J. (David) and Daniel Koscinski; his sisters Eileen (Daniel) Sears of FL, Susan (Tom) Druskis, NC, his brothers Jeff Franz. NC, Scott (Lorrie) Franz, AL; his sister-in-law Beverly Franz, his brother-in-law Jon (Joy) Beekman, sister-in-law Wendy (Larry) Woodhouse, former sister-in-law Barbara Beekman and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and numerous friends. He was pre-deceased by his brother William Franz, who he missed deeply.

The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to Dr. William Ryan and his staff for all of the care provided to Louie and to Edwards Ambulance Service and to neighbor Marianne Monahan for all of her help throughout Louis’ illness.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday September 26, at 1:00 PM at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford, with The Rev. James Cesta, Officiating. Military honors will be conferred following the service. There are no calling hours. The family will receive friends following the services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.

Louie will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
