Surrounded by his loving family, Htin Aung (also known as Shwe Toe) passed on to his next life at 1:20 PM on July 6, 2024. Born and raised in Yangon, Myanmar, Htin was the third son of Tin Pe and Tin Sein.

He earned a Bachelor of Laws from the prestigious Rangoon Arts and Sciences University (RASU). He taught English to high school students in Zagyan Village for two years. Decades after his time in Zagyan, his former students still hold immense respect for him. Htin then worked as an officer at the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI – Batch 16). He retired as a legal consultant.

He married the love of his life, Yuzana Shein, on November 2, 1989. Being a father was his greatest joy. Htin was the best father his two daughters could ever ask for. He was tremendously proud of his daughters, May and Bella, who went on to become a doctor and a university lecturer respectively, just as he always wished for.

Htin loved traveling with his family, whether it be going on road trips across Myanmar or exploring the United States and Canada. A devout Buddhist, he also enjoyed helping people, donating to those who needed the most, and meditating. In addition, he loved playing golf, swimming, hanging out with his friends, and taking photographs. Everyone will remember his kind heart, helpful nature, and hearty smile.

Htin is survived by his wife, Yuzana, his daughters, May (Pete) and Bella (Matt), and three kitty grandchildren, Lilac, Kit Kat, and Lucky. Htin is also survived by his mother, Tin Sein, and his three younger sisters, Cho Lwin, Cho War, and Khin Mar Aye. He is predeceased by his father, Tin Pe, and his older brothers, Aung Maung and Soe Myint. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews, friends, and pupils.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, July 10, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. Entombment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

We thank Htin’s home hospice care team for making his final days as comfortable as possible.

Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Cancer Ward at the Yangon General Hospital in Htin’s memory.
