Zelma Ann Nichols Dawes, 88, passed away on December 28, 2024. She was born in Jefferson, NY, on June 22,1936. She was the daughter of the late Ezra and Olena Harrington Nichols.
Zelma married Vincent L. Dawes June 20, 1964 and they shared many happy years and memories together until his passing on January 17, 2016.
Zelma retired from Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center. After her retirement, she spent many years actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren in whom she took great pride.
Zelma was a Eucharistic minister and active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica. She later transferred to St. John’s the Evangelist in New Hartford.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Debra and Richard Carlson of Gardiner, NY, her grandchildren Ryan and Jen Carlson of Cohoes, NY and Lindsay and Greg Hull of Highland, NY, her great- grandson, Carter Carlson as well as by her brother and sister in law, Robert and Gail Nichols. She has several nieces and nephews as well.
She was predeceased by her husband Vincent Dawes, her brother, James Nichols and her two sister, Pauline Petronella and Louise Nichols.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff involved in her care through Hudson Valley Hospice.
