Thomas V. Randall, 90, of New Hartford passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in the comfort of his own home.

He was born on January 13, 1935, in Yorkville, a son of the late Ernest and Irene Hahn Randall. He graduated from New Hartford High School and then served briefly in the United States Army. On October 12, 1963, Tom (Butch) married Patricia (Patti) Heburn, a loving marriage of 59+ years until her passing in July 2023.

Butch was employed by Simplex Time Recorder Company. He also served as a New Hartford police officer, volunteer fireman and 1st Lieutenant of the NH Fire police squad. His service of 67 1/2 years makes him the longest serving volunteer member in the history of the NHFD.

Throughout his high school years, Butch was a standout athlete on the gridiron, hardwood and diamond. He graduated from Spartan Central in 1954. As a Senior, Butch was on the mound to record the 1st ever NH victory on what is now known as Joe Corr Field. That same year, he helped lead the football, basketball & baseball Spartans to a combined record of 39-1. An accomplishment he was most proud of and enjoyed talking about with whoever would listen.

Butch’s love for sports continued throughout his life. He played uncountable rounds of golf at Twin Ponds Golf & Country Club and my sister and I could name every softball field in Oneida, Madison & Herkimer County. Rummy’s Bat Cave, The Club House & Deller’s Restaurant were the teams he enjoyed the most. Butch was also a regular at the Sunset bowling alley. Bob Babiarz, Dan Zegibe and Peppi Massa were his lifelong friends & teammates.

The Graham Ave General was raised at 10 Graham Ave. and when he married Patti he bought the house at 9 Graham Ave. Living in the end zone of Don Edick field for close to 90 years was a dream come true for him. Butch sat on the front porch and enjoyed every event that took place on that field. He was a supportive and proud SPARTAN. 9 Graham Ave held more front and backyard parties than Butch will ever know.

He is survived by his children, Kathi Randall and her husband Emilio Hallam, of New Hartford, John Randall and his wife, Karen of Utica and grandchildren Amanda Deep and Cal Randall. Along with several nieces, nephews and Spook the “human” feline! Butch will join his heavenly sisters Agnes and Betty along with his brothers Bucky and Fritz. His wife Patti will be waiting with an updated grocery list.

Kathi and John would like to thank the Hospice nurses and the nurses on the 8th floor East at Wynn Hospital. A special thanks to the NHFD for their immediate response to assist with anything related to 12 Graham Ave. Also to Virginia Moylan & Tina Brockway who looked after our dad throughout the last few weeks. A very special thank you to Becky Wittman for helping the Butcher look sharp throughout his elderly years.

Butch would appreciate it, if everyone could squeeze for a New York Mets World Series victory and a winning season for the Browns. Remember Dad, tell Jack Lupino to take it easy on Jake and ask Bobby Shahoud who he likes in the Kentucky Derby.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, March 6, from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford. Burial will be at 11:00am on Friday, March 7 at Cavalry Cemetery on Oneida St.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to New Hartford Youth Basketball.
