Thomas G. Davis, 80, of New Hartford and formerly of Yorkville, passed away November 20, 2024, at his home. He was born December 16, 1943, in Utica, son of the late Reginald Davis and Thelma Waddington Davis. He graduated from Whitesboro High School, Mohawk Valley Community College, and received his Bachelor’s degree from Utica College. On September 25, 1965, he married his best friend and love of his life, Judy Schachel.
Tom was employed with Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation as an electrical planner from 1964-1999 and was also the CEO of Utica Gas & Electric Federal Credit Union for many years before retiring in 2008.
Tom proudly served in the United States Army Reserves from 1965 to 1972 and was a member of the New Hartford American Legion Post # 1376. He was an avid hunter for over 60 years and always looked forward to the fall seasons he spent on the southern tier of New York State with his dedicated group of hunting partners.
Tom started playing golf in his mid-20s, and it quickly became his passion throughout the remainder of his lifetime as he took every opportunity to play. He developed extensive friendships through this mutual connection with other golfers over multiple decades. Tom and Judy shared this passion together, especially as empty nesters once their three sons left for college, when they were able to play several times a week. One of the highlights of Tom’s golfing legacy was recording three hole-in-ones over the course of his career, two of which were at the Skenandoa Golf Club where Tom and Judy have been active members over the last 30 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy, and immediate family. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Carol, and her husband, Tom Evered, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. He was predeceased by his three sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Fred Trojan, Bonnie and Bob Williams, and Kathy and John Lukaszek. Family was incredibly important to Tom, and he cherished spending as much time as possible with his three devoted sons and their families: Corey and partner Anna Araman, Garrett and wife Ruth, and Blaine and wife Helen. He was especially proud of his seven grandchildren: Spencer, Ella, Addison, Mitchell, Briggs, Preston, and Piper whom he saw often while attending many of their numerous activities.
Tom will be deeply missed by all whom he touched in so many different ways but will forever be remembered for his unwavering love, integrity, honesty, generosity, sense of humor, and golfing prowess.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to Hospice and Palliative Care of New Hartford, especially Alyssa for all of the care provided to Tom.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. Immediately after the ceremony, guests are invited to gather at the Skenandoa Golf Club at 7105 Norton Ave, Clinton, NY.
