On April 2, 2025, Nathan Hickling went home to be with His Lord and Savior after struggling with persistent health issues.
He was born in Cooperstown, New York on August 11, 1965 to Alton and Joan (Lewis) Hickling. Nathan was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of over 30 years, Tonye Mintonye Hickling. The two met in 1993 at Jeremiah House, a Christian coffee house. Along with his wife Tonye, he is survived by his parents Alton and Joan Hickling of Burlington Flats, who cared for him through the many health issues he had since birth, his siblings Calvin Hickling, Brian (Terry) Hickling, Karen (Dwayne) Rifanburg, Norman (Daryl) Hickling. He is predeceased by his brother David Hickling. He is also survived by his in-laws, James and Evelyn Mintonye of Clinton who demonstrated their love and support for him and Tonye throughout his recent illness.
Nathan was a dairy farmer for many years, both at home in partnership with his father and on other farms. He also worked in various restaurant settings. He was a skilled self-taught artist and enjoyed the times that he and his mother would do art work together.
When he was 18, he gave his life to Jesus Christ, securing an eternity with Him. This all important choice led him to join Teen Missions in order to share the Good News that others can have a relationship with Jesus Christ. He had the opportunity to share his faith on two different missions trips that took him across parts of Canada and the United States and then England.
We would like to thank the skilled and caring nursing staff of Wynn Hospital ICU and the SLB6 floor of Richmond University Medical Center of Staten Island, New York. Heart felt thanks also to the many who prayed for him (too many to list) through his recent medical struggles. Each and every prayer and the caring hearts behind them has been so appreciated.
The funeral will be on Tuesday at 6:00 pm at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. Interment will be on Wednesday at 11:00 in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers please consider a gift to Teen Missions International, 885 E Hall Rd, Merritt Island, FL 32953 (https://teenmissions.org ). This will enable more teens to share with others how they can spend eternity with Jesus Christ in the same way Nathan shared the Good News.
