In Memory of Martha Elmer Jones

Obituary

Martha Elmer Jones of Utica, NY passed away on June 26, 2024. She was born on November 18, 1929 in Morrisville, NY, the daughter of Everett and Gertrude Elmer. Marty was a graduate of Utica Free Academy, class of 1947 and Rochester Eastman School of Dental Hygiene, class of 1949. Marty was a dental hygienist for 34 years working for local dentists.

She married Sterling Jones in June of 1952. He passed away in May of 1983. Marty and her husband owned and operated the Skanowunde Club in Sauquoit, NY.

In the past Marty was involved in the Junior League, Central Association for the Blind, and the Utica Curling Club.

She is survived by her daughter Tracey Cookson and son-in –law Douglas Cookson of New Hampshire and her daughter Wendy Skop and son-in-law Andrew Skop of New Jersey. Her grandchildren-Brian Sterling Cookson and his wife Iliana, Sarah DeAngelo and her husband Brian DeAngelo, Max Sterling Skop, and Zachery Skop. She also leaves great grandchildren James and Gabriela.

Marty was predeceased by four brothers and sisters. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Marty’s wishes, she will be cremated. There are no calling hours.
