Marla G. Bennett, 87, passed away at the Lutheran Care Community in Clinton, N.Y. on January 17, 2025. She was born on May 19, 1937, in Gloversville, N.Y., daughter of Arthur and Thelma (Huntzinger) Cederholm. She attended Colonie Central High School and was Valedictorian of her class. She married Herbert G. Bennett Jr, her High School sweetheart.


Marla was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as organist, choir director and secretary for several decades. Her devotion to her church was one of her life’s joys. She was also employed as bookkeeper at her sons’ business, Bennett Distributors, in Whitesboro, NY.

Marla was a member of the Utica Symphony League, Valley Voices for Christ, and involved with the Girl Scouts as Cookie Chairman for over 40 years. She also enjoyed bowling. Her greatest passion in life were her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her cherished family including her children, Herbert G. Bennett III and his wife Beth, of Whitesboro, Lori Smaldon and her husband Mark of Lee Center, Sheri Hall and her husband Don of Ilion, Richard Bennett and his wife Kathy of Utica, and Raymond Bennett and his wife Karla of Utica. She is survived by 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, a brother, Arthur Cederholm and his wife Darlene of Holton, Kansas. She was pre-deceased by her sister Edith (Dee) Lepley of Toms River, N.J.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica on Saturday, February 1 st , at 1pm. Interment will be at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnston, at the convenience of the family in the Spring.
