Leo Stuart Mengel, Jr., 78, of Webster, NY, formerly of New Hartford, NY, passed away on December 6, 2024.
Born on February 12, 1946, in Oneida, NY, Leo dedicated his life to serving his country and community. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery and service.
Following his military service, Leo enjoyed a fulfilling 47-year career at Eastwood Management Corp. He earned a bachelor's degree in business from Utica College and an associate's degree in computer science from Monroe County Community College. In his free time, he found joy in working on cars, caring for stray cats, and engaging in lively discussions about sports and politics. Leo had a good laugh and a kind heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Leo was a beloved brother and uncle. He was predeceased by his parents, Leo Stuart Mengel, Sr., and Thelma Irene Freeman Mengel. He is survived by his sister, Kay Albright of New Hartford, NY; his sister, Joy Lynch, and her husband, Jim, of Orlando, FL; his niece, Kimberly Gordiany, and her husband, Steve, of Orlando, FL; his niece, Christine Schlaegel, and her husband, Rich, of Ilion, NY; his nephew, James Lynch, and his wife, Kim, of Seoul, Korea; and several cherished great-nieces and nephews.
Leo will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family will be holding a service in the spring.
