Laura L. Stewart, age 80, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024 surrounded by love.
Laura was born on October 13,1944 in Queens Village, NY. She was united in marriage to James Stewart of Plainview, NY on December 19th, 1964. They shared a true love story of more than 55 years until James’ passing in 2022. Together they welcomed four children and eight grandchildren who were their greatest joy.
Laura was a registered nurse who renewed her certification despite spending the majority of her life raising her four children and helping to care for her grandchildren. Throughout her life she was active in PTA, Welcome Wagon, Meals on Wheels, and with the Presbyterian Women of the New Hartford Presbyterian Church. She also volunteered with Hospice and worked for the United States Census.
Laura loved the beach, spending many summers at the family cabin in Camp Six Oaks in Long Island. It was a place filled with sunshine, water, and relaxation where wonderful memories were made. Laura loved to spend time in her garden and could often be found in the backyard amongst her beautiful flowers. She collected perennials from others that grew together in perfect unity. But where we will all remember Mom the most is in the kitchen. She loved to cook and had a collection of handwritten recipes she would use again and again. Holidays were spent laughing together around a table, usually shouting at her to join us as she listened from the kitchen. Laura was a true “homemaker”, making you always feel like you were home surrounded by unconditional love and support. Laura believed we were each here with the purpose of making the world a better place. And she did just that in so many ways.
Laura is survived by her children and their spouses, Brad and Jodi Stewart, Roy and Alissa Stewart, Kara and Paul Bisaccia, and Jonathan Stewart. Grandma Laura was a constant in the hearts of her grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob and Samuel Stewart, Parker and Clayton Stewart, James, Abigail, and Grace Bisaccia. She also leaves behind many dear friends at the New Hartford Presbyterian Church.
Family and friends are invited to honor Laura with a memorial service on Saturday, November 30th at 2 pm at New Hartford Presbyterian Church, 45 Genesee Street, New Hartford. With a time for sharing and reception following. Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at MVHS Wound Clinic, especially Dr. Jorge Ferreiro, Mary Ellen, and all the wonderful nurses.
In lieu of flowers, remembrance may be made to the New Hartford Fire Department (www.nhfd.com).
