Joseph (Joey O) O'Toole

Joseph O'Toole, 70, of New Hartford, passed away January 18th, 2025 at a hospice facility in Rome, NY. He was surrounded by friends and family.

Joe was born April 15th, 1954 in Utica, the son of the late Walter and Bernice O'Toole. He was survived by his sister Maureen (Steve) Orton of Clinton, his nieces Jennifer(Rob) Volz of New Hartford, Julie (Andrew) Schenk of West Orange, NJ, nephews David (Susan) Ryan of Norfolk, VA, Michael (Janae) Ciszek of Northport, NY, and Jesse (Kayla) Orton of Syracuse, and several grand nieces and nephews. As well as countless friends that were more like family that were always by his side. He was predeceased by his sisters Karen (Gary) Argento of Boston and Janice (Frank) Ciszek of New Hartford.

Joe lived the majority of his life in New Hartford, and if you ever frequented a local watering hole, you probably considered him a friend. Joe was like a modern-day Cheers character, whether he was the bartender or a customer, everyone knew his name. Joe enjoyed golfing and skiing in his free time. But mostly, he enjoyed the company of good friends while enjoying a drink and telling Irish tales of his colorful life adventures. Joe wasn't just the life of the party, he WAS the party. In his later years, his home became "Joey O's Irish Pub" and his door was open for all his friends to come together to laugh and carry on. Joe spent many years as a caregiver for his mother and grandparents. He was a beloved brother and uncle, always with a joke and a smile.

Calling hours are Tuesday January 28th from 10 to 12 at Friedel, William & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Service, 13 Oxford Rd, New Hartford. There will be a funeral service following at noon.
