John L. “Belvedere” “Belvie” Dundon, 93, of Old Forge, died peacefully on January 29, 2023 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, with his loving and devoted daughter by his side.

He was born January 24, 1930 in Watertown, NY to James and Ella Weeks Dundon. He graduated from Stockbridge Valley High School, and served honorably with the US Air Force in France. On February 10, 1956, he married Patricia Scouten, a loving union of 49 years until her death on July 10, 2005.

John retired from Griffiss Air Force Base in 1985, after 30 years of employment. He then worked at Thendara Golf Club and retired at the age of 89. Not only did John enjoy working at the club, he also enjoyed playing a round or two. He was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, a life member of the Covey-Pashley American Legion Post 893 of Old Forge, and a member of the VFW, Yorkville Post 7393.

Belvie and his daughter shared a very special bond and you seldom saw one without the other. It was their weekly tradition to be the first ones at the Tavern on Sunday for a burger, to sign the book, and to spend time with good friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Centola of Old Forge, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best K9 buddy, Kobie. In addition, he is survived by his special friends, Lou Salin, George Meeker, Mike Marleau, ADK Fishing Buddies and many other close friends. In addition to his wife Patricia, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Timothy Centola, three brothers and three sisters.

The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to Dr. William Gaetano, Dr. Colon, Dr. Win, Palliative Care Specialist Ariella, and all the staff on the 3rd floor at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center for the special care and comfort given to John. A special thank you to the community of Old Forge for welcoming Belvie when he moved there and making him feel like he was home.

The funeral will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Old Forge on Tuesday, May 2 at 11:00 am. Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Service, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Covey-Pashley American Legion Post 893, P.O. Box 893, Old Forge, NY 13420 or to the Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corp. P.O. Box 887, Old Forge, NY 13420.
