Jean Ann (Nott/Taubinger) Misiaszek was born Wednesday, June 8, 1938 to Proctor and Catherine Nott in her Grandmother Hamilton’s home in Brighton, CO. She passed away on January 4, 2025.
She attended Eastlake Elementary through 8th grade and then went to Brighton High School where she graduated in 1955. She attended and graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1959 with a Bachelors in Education. Jean taught music her entire career. Her first job was in Montrose, CO, which was on the western slope of Colorado. When she left Montrose and returned to Denver, she earned her Master’s degree. She later became a teacher and retired from Utica Schools in New York.
While growing up, Jean attended the Eastlake Congregational Church in Eastlake, CO; was a member of 4-H and Rainbow Girls. Jean also had a wonderful soprano voice and sang with many choirs in Denver, including the prestigious Colorado Chorale.
Jean married Ed Taubinger December 26, 1965. They adopted two boys, Dennis in October 1969 and Timothy in December 1972. While the boys were growing up, they made their home in Arvada, CO then in Grand Junction, CO. Jean loved to camp with her boys and husband in the Colorado mountains and Lake McConaughy in Nebraska. The family moved to New York in the summer of 1989. Jean lost her husband, Ed, April 18, 1991. Jean and her boys remained in New York after Ed’s death. Jean was a member of the New Hartford Methodist Church, since 1990, where she was involved in the choir and played the organ.
February 15, 1997 Jean married Emil Misiaszek of Poland, NY. Together they had many adventures during their marriage. Including travels with the Tramp and Trail club. Together they built the camp on Wellesley Island in 2008 and enjoyed many summers there. They also enjoyed traveling and visiting family all over, always trying to include everyone.
May 24, 1997 Jean gained a daughter-in-law when her son, Tim, married Hope Skelly. From this union Jean was blessed with her only grandchild, a granddaughter whom she adored was born February 25, 2009.
Jean is survived by her husband, Emil Misiaszek of Poland, son Dennis Taubinger of Utica and son Tim (Hope) Taubinger; granddaughter April Taubinger from Cicero; Emil’s children; sister-in-law Carol Nott, Thornton, CO; three nieces in Colorado along with numerous great and great great nieces and nephews from Colorado, Ed’s brother Rich, sister Sandy, their kids, cousin Ruth from Ashtabula, OH and cousins from Colorado.
Jean was predeceased by her brother Ed Nott on August 16, 1990, her mother Catherine Nott, March 11, 1999, her father Proctor Nott, April 30, 2006 and her sister Helen McNair, June 4, 2024.
Calling hours are on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the First United Methodist Church, 105 Genesee St., New Hartford, NY 13413. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 Noon.
