James Warwick Rayhill born September 16, 1937 died November 11, 2017.

He was one of four sons including Michael Rayhill, Philip Rayhill and Leo Rayhill born to Leo M and Genevieve Bannigan Rayhill in Utica New York. James graduated New Hartford High School and then attended Williams College graduating in the class of 1959 and Yale Law School, graduating in the class of 1962. He served in the New York Air National Guard from 1962-1968.

He was Assistant US Attorney for the southern district of New York and was a partner at Carter Ledyard and Milburn in New York City.

While at the US attorney’s office, he prosecuted then US Attorney John N. Mitchell for activities related to the Watergate affair. Jim was committed to increased diversity within the legal profession and to increased access to legal services. He served for many years on the board of New York Lawyers for the Public Interest. He loved opera, the Berkshires and antiques. He is survived by his brother Leo and by 11 nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday, November 15 at 11:00 AM at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. There are no calling hours
