James D. Callahan (Denny), age 76 of Trenton Falls died on November 18, 2024 at MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born July 21, 1948 in Utica, NY the son of the late Edward and Agnes Callahan.

He was educated at Notre Dame Jr/ Sr High and New Hartford High School. He served in the US Army as a radio repair technician stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War from 1968-1970.

He married Mary Anne Linder on November 3, 1973 at Sacred Heart Church, Utica, NY. He worked at Friedrich Climate Master in Utica and later became a New York State Corrections Officer, retiring after 23 years in 2011. Following his retirement, he worked as security at the Turning Stone Casino.

Denny was a member of the Holland Patent American Legion and the Remsen VFW. He enjoyed all things Irish- especially Irish music and sharing a pint with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Anne (Linder) Callahan; a daughter, Colleen (Scott) Matthews of Barneveld, NY and three sons, Patrick Callahan of Rome, NY, Sean Callahan of Holland Patent, NY and Michael (Tina Driskell) Croghan of Herndon,VA; grandchildren Serena Callahan, Maura Matthews, Teagan Matthews, Phinean Callahan, and Mikolai Callahan; his siblings Steven (Wendy) Callahan, Patricia Mitchell, Sheila Corr, Mary (James) Williams, Eileen (Peter) Cougan and Edward Jr. (Shelly) Callahan; his sisters in law Ellen (Thomas) Pietruch and Isabelle Linder and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his feline companion, Katie and special friends Arline and Dick Harvey. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Paul Callahan.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and Palliative care staff at Wynn Hospital and the nurses and staff at the MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their compassion during this difficult time. The family especially wants to express their gratitude and appreciation to his nurse Christine Green at MVHS for everything she did to help Denny and our family.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Friends may consider the Dementia Society of America or the Parkinson’s Foundation in lieu of flowers.
