Enid Eaton Norton, aged 102, of Griffin, GA, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024. Born on June 5, 1922, in Utica, NY, she was a cherished member of the community and a beacon of dedication and love throughout her long life.
Enid's early education was at PS 134, New York, NY followed by Andrew Jackson High School in Jamaica, Queens, NY. She furthered her education at Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. Her career spanned over five decades with School District 163 in Park Forest, IL, where she was honored for 50 years of service and named Employee of the Year by the South Suburban Association of Educational Office Personnel in 1995-1996. After her retirement at 92, she moved to Georgia to be close to family.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Enid is survived by daughters Lynn Locke and Dee Jolly; sons-in-law Michael Locke and Michael Jolly; grandchildren Allison Whidden (Scott), Amanda Locke, Adam Locke (Alfred Lim), Jaime Manion (Bryan); great-grandchildren Aeryainne Whidden, Riley Whidden, Charlotte Manion, and Luke Manion; nieces Kim Orloff, Wendy Palmer, Kristen Henderson, Phyllis Mullins, Susan Loza, Sandy Rice, and nephews Christopher Faber, Tom Faber, Timothy Faber, Douglas Eaton, Stephen Eaton, Russell Eaton and Jeffery Peterman. She was preceded in death by her parents Agnes and Tom Eaton Sr., brothers Tom Jr. and Charles Eaton, sisters Emmy Lou Faber, Mitzi Peterman, grandson Andrew Locke and niece Elizabeth "Betsy" Faber.
Enid was a devoted member of Faith United Protestant Church in Park Forest, IL, for 61 years. Her hobbies included traveling, knitting, and bowling. She was an avid reader, with Louisa May Alcott as her favorite author, and enjoyed baking, especially known for her Scotch Toffee Bars and Ranger Joe Cookies.
A family memorial service is scheduled for June 5, 2025, at 10:00 am at Grace Episcopal Church in Utica, NY, with interment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. A celebration of her life will also be held in Park Forest, Illinois, later in June. Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services.
