Obituary

E. Michael Hensel, 79, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at Abraham House, Rome, NY.

Mike was born in Utica, NY on November 18,1945 to the late Edward L. and Mary L. [O’Connor] Hensel. Mike was a graduate of New Hartford High School and Vale Technical Institute, Blairsville, PA.

Mike was a United States Army Veteran and served his country in Vietnam. He was at one time employed by the City of Utica Public Works Dept. and various other local businesses.

Mike is survived by his sister, Suzanne M. Virkler, brother-in-law, William M. Virkler and their children, niece Kelly M. Greene [Christopher], nephew William M. Virkler II [Patricia], their children William M. Virkler III, Alyssa Virkler and Patrick Virkler. He also leaves a son Michael Christian.

Mike was predeceased in 2012 by his companion of 25 years, Mary Lerch

In keeping with Mike’s wishes a private family funeral service was held. Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.

Mike and his family wish to thank Abraham’s House for their compassionate care, and a special thank you to his nurse, Crystal, from Hospice Care, New Hartford, while Mike was at home.
