Dr. Nicholas S. Peters, Jr., 74, of New Hartford, NY and Sebastian, FL, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025.

Nick lived a life filled with love, kindness, and dedication to his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, always offering wisdom, humor, and a helping hand to those around him.

Born on February 24, 1950, in the Bronx, NY, the son of the late Dr. Nicholas S. Peters, Sr. and Lucy Peters. Nick grew up in Syracuse, NY, went to Utica College for his undergraduate degree followed by medical school in Bologna, Italy. He completed his medical residency at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, NY. Nick was a skilled physician, working in the emergency room at St. Luke’s Hospital, then as the assistant medical director for Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and finished his medical career as a geriatrician at St. Luke’s Home, Sitrin Nursing Home and Utica Rehab. He took great pride in caring for others in their time of need.

An avid fly-fisherman, he enjoyed fly-fishing locally, and on the Missouri River in Craig, MT, and traveled as far as Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, Labrador and Alaska to fly-fish with his sons and good friends. He developed a recent love for bass fishing down in Florida. He adored history, spending countless hours reading and educating himself (and others) on famous historical events such as the Civil War. He enjoyed traveling with his family and took his grandchildren to Disney World on several occasions.

He is survived by his beloved wife Deborah (Odell) Peters of forty years, his children, Nicholas (Kate), Michael (Ava), and Katherine (Luis), and his cherished grandchildren, Charlie, Henry and Clare Peters, Valona and Amela Peters, and Lilyana Flores. He is also survived by his sisters, Maria (Barry) Scott and Celeste Pylman. He will be deeply missed by his extended family and many dear friends.

In keeping with Nick’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The family will gather for a Catholic mass at St. John’s The Evangelist Church on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 11:00AM. The family will have a receiving line in church following the funeral mass. Entombment will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 2407 Oneida St, Utica, NY.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Heart Association in his honor.

Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
