Virginia (Ginny) S. Burth, of Sauquoit, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Virginia was born in Utica, a daughter of the late Lloyd M. and Minnie S. Seiter. She attended St. Francis De Sales High School, where she met the love of her life, Carlton J. (Jack) Burth Jr., with whom she shared a blessed union of 66 years. Virginia worked at the New York Bell telephone company before starting a family and at the Robert L. Bradley Elementary & New Hartford Senior High schools after her children were grown.

Virginia was the backbone of her family and will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother and a devoted daughter. She was an avid runner, participating in many road races, including the Utica Boilermaker, Falling Leaves Race, Freihofer’s Run for Women, Falmouth Road Race, and America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk, and would often place in her age group. She enjoyed cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and traveling. She found true joy in being outdoors, especially at Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks, where she vacationed with her family each summer.

Virginia opened her home to all, never missing an opportunity to entertain, hosting large family gatherings and always welcoming friends whom she would treat like family. She took great pride in her expansive gardens, admired by all who came to visit. She was a passionate antiquer and took special pleasure in obtaining the “best bargains” for her collection.
Virginia undoubtedly fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept her faith to the end.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband, Jack Burth, and their children, Carleen (Ian Duling) Burth of Wilmington, DE, Kyle (Clare) Burth of New Hartford, NY, Sheila Burth of New Hartford, NY, Jodi (Peter) Cary of Oswego, NY, and John (Kelly) Burth of Saranac Lake, NY. Virginia is also survived by her grandchildren, Cassie (Dan) Senif, Bryan (Jenny) Cary, Colleen Burth, Jacob Cary, Shannon Burth, and Kelsi, Tyler, and Wyatt Burth; two great grandchildren, Dylan and Callie; siblings Charles (Virginia) Seiter, Sister Annette Seiter, OSF, Jeanne (Michael) Johnson, Kathleen (Lane) Krenichyn, sister-in-law Gladys (Theodore) Seiter, and numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia was predeceased by infant twin daughters and by her brother, Theodore Seiter.

The funeral will be on Monday, April 15, at 10:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Sunday, April 14, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.

The family would like to thank the kind and compassionate caregivers from the Wynn Hospital, 7W, especially Debbie Sellars and Dr. Win, as well as from Acacia Homecare, Choice One Homecare, LLC, and Hospice & Palliative Care.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Virginia’s name may be made to the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, operated by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, in Allegany, NY (alleganyfranciscans.org).
